My first dives. For the PADI ADVANCED course I was taken to Dosthill Quarry. October 1994. Yep, Cold.
Reading the dive log, I didnt sound that impressed with the underwater life. Remember these were FUN DIVES straight after the open water course ! Anyway, It would be good to hear from anyone still diving in Dosthill.

It must be fun. Can we share further more about your PADI Advance Course in the Dosthill Quarry? About the water, visibility and the marine life inside the quarry.

Hi Scuba man.
I have just done the PADI Open Water course. Should I do the advanced course soon or just do some fun dives first??? I am not sure about diving in the UK. I learned in the Med. Mark W.

Hi, I have it logged as dive 5 !!!,
22.10.1994. As the blog develops I hope that it will show how ANYONE will improve, not just in confidence but also air consumption etc.
150 bar to start. a 11m dive….just 20 mins and out of the water with 60 bar. My comments were ” testing out a new location” “Not very good, not overcrowded, but also not much to see” I think this is compared with Stoney cove!
Vis 4m which is ok. temp.8 degrees…………. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Regards SCUBA MAN

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the post. and congratulations on passing the course. The advanced course is what I like to think of as an “experience” of diving. Just a small step forward. In the Open Water course you learn the skills needed to look after yourself and your buddy. In the advanced course you start “multi tasking” IE you will have “things to do” some dives are compulsory, the rest you choose. I did my advanced after doing a few “fun”dives.
The advanced course is meant to be fun, There is no more “taking your mask off etc” TIP though. Your log book will always say more about your experience that an advanced card. As an instructor I see ADVANCED divers with 9 dives experience and others with 500 ! with the same card.
So do the advanced as soon as you can but keep logging those dives. SCUBA MAN. Dive safe.
